Sextant License

Last updated: 27 July 2026

This is the End User License Agreement referenced by our Terms of Service. It is the same file that ships with the source in our repository. In short: free components are yours to use commercially, paid components are licensed per the tier you bought, and anything you have already installed stays yours to use and ship even after your update window closes.

Copyright © 2026 Sextant. All rights reserved.

This is a commercial software license, not an open-source license. The Sextant component registry and its contents are proprietary. Except for the limited rights expressly granted below, no rights are granted and all rights are reserved by the copyright holder ("Sextant", "we", "us").

1. Definitions

  • Components — the source code, components, demos, utilities, styles, and related materials made available through the Sextant registry and website (sextant.sh).
  • Free Components — Components designated "free" in the catalog and installable without a License Key.
  • Paid Components — Components designated "paid" in the catalog, installable only with a valid License Key.
  • License Key — a key issued by Sextant upon purchase of a license.
  • Licensee — the individual or entity that has obtained Components under this License ("you").
  • Tier — the plan you purchased: Indie, Product, or Business. Your Tier is shown on your receipt and determines the limits in section 3.
  • Application — one product or application that you, your employer, or your client owns and ships, together with all of its environments, deployments, and releases. Internal tools count as one Application.
  • Update Window — the period during which your License Key may install new or updated Paid Components (section 4).

2. Free Components

Subject to this License, we grant you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, modify, and incorporate the Free Components into your own applications and products, including commercial ones.

You may not:

  • redistribute, resell, sublicense, or publish the Free Components (modified or not) as a component library, registry, template, or starter kit, whether free or paid;
  • remove or obscure copyright or attribution notices in the source.

3. Paid Components and Tiers

Paid Components require a valid purchased license. Upon purchase, and for as long as you comply with this License, we grant you a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install, use, and modify the Paid Components within your own Applications, up to the limits of your Tier:

  • Indie — a one-time purchase. One Application, built by you personally or for your employer. Your Update Window is 12 months from the date of purchase.
  • Product — an annual subscription, per Application. One Application. Your Update Window runs for as long as the subscription is active.
  • Business — an annual subscription. Up to five Applications, including Applications you ship to your own customers (see section 5). Your Update Window runs for as long as the subscription is active.

Prices, tier features, and any changes to them are as displayed at sextant.sh at the time of your purchase. These three Tiers are the complete offering: every Tier carries a published price, and there is no custom-priced, negotiated, or contact-only tier. If you need more than five Applications, purchase additional Business subscriptions to cover them.

4. Updates, expiry, and continued use

Your License Key installs Paid Components only while your Update Window is open.

  • When the Update Window closes — after 12 months for Indie, or on cancellation, non-renewal, or lapse of an annual subscription — the key stops installing new or updated Paid Components. It is not revoked, and no code is taken away.
  • Components already installed at that point are yours to keep. You may continue to use, modify, and ship them, indefinitely, under the terms of this License, with no further payment. This is a perpetual fallback: you only ever lose access to future updates and new Components.
  • Renewing or resubscribing reopens the Update Window and restores installs.

Expiry of the Update Window is not termination of this License (section 8), and your rights in section 4 survive it.

5. Shipping Components to your customers

You may ship Paid Components as part of an Application you deliver to end users, provided they are integrated into that Application and are not made available to your customers as source they can extract and reuse independently. Delivering Components as a component library, registry, template, starter kit, or design system for others to build on is redistribution, and is not permitted under any Tier.

6. Restrictions

You may not:

  • use Paid Components without a valid license, or beyond your Tier's Application limit;
  • redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or otherwise make the Paid Components available to any third party as source, except as permitted by section 5;
  • publish, post, or share the Paid Component source code publicly (including in public repositories, gists, forums, or AI training datasets);
  • use the Components, in whole or in part, to build, train, or offer a product that competes with Sextant (e.g. a component registry, library, or marketplace);
  • share, resell, or publish your License Key, or use one key across separate legal entities.

The limits in section 3 apply to your license whether or not they are enforced by technical means. If you outgrow your Tier, upgrade to a higher published Tier — write to us and we will credit what you have already paid for the current period against it.

7. Ownership

Sextant retains all right, title, and interest in and to the Components, including all intellectual property rights. This License does not transfer ownership of the Components to you. Components you build into your own product remain subject to this License with respect to the Sextant-authored portions.

8. Termination

This License terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. On termination you must stop using and remove the Paid Components from any project not already shipped. Sections 7, 9, and 10 survive termination. Termination for breach is distinct from the ordinary expiry of an Update Window, which leaves your rights under section 4 intact.

9. Disclaimer of Warranty

THE COMPONENTS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

10. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL SEXTANT BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE COMPONENTS OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE COMPONENTS.

Nothing in this License limits any rights you have as a consumer under applicable law, including the refund rights described at sextant.sh/refund.
